To the Editor — In their recent Perspective, Tuzlak et al.1 review the latest advances in the field of T helper (TH) cell functional polarization and propose “repositioning” TH cell classification away from single cytokines to a nomenclature that is based on helper function and the type of cell helped. Given recent progress, it is timely to ask where the new findings lead us. Is the cytokine-based nomenclature of TH cells2,3 a justifiable dogma or a barrier to gaining a deeper understanding?
