High-throughput profiling of the whole proteome remains a major goal in the post-genomic era but, compared with nucleic-acid sequencing approaches, proteomics methods lack affordability, scalability and standardization. A recent study re-casts proteomic analyses as a DNA sequencing problem; by fusing in vivo-expressed proteins to their encoding mRNA, molecular interactions can be identified and quantified through high-throughput nucleic-acid sequencing.
